How To Use Feminine Energy (or principle) In Business

Using Feminine Energy & Principles In Business

To begin with, I have to clarify that feminine and masculine principles are not defined by gender or sexual orientation. They are universal energies, principles, or capacities found in all people, systems, and cultures.

Historically, both organisations and individual leaders tended to rely overwhelmingly on the masculine paradigm, it is oriented towards action, decisiveness, competition, productivity and profit. Most recently though, values coming from the feminine (such as sustainability) are becoming more important in the collective consciousness.

The feminine energy focused on receptivity, deep listening, intuitive response to the challenge, mindful being in the moment, can bring huge value to the business setting when applied in the right way.

Here are five examples of situations where -bringing this energy can be game-changing.

  1. Conflict between individuals or teams. This is where deep listening and staying with the situation, even surrendering to it - as opposed to looking for a “quick fix” - can be exactly what’s needed.

  2. Goal setting. Staying open and receptive instead of overly driven will help refine goals to be more focused on the common good and the bigger picture.

  3. Sales. Receptivity allows for a correct assessment of a potential client-supplier dynamic as opposed to a narrow focus which can close doors to an even bigger win. The feminine quality takes care of maintaining a wider perspective and is likely to ask: is what we have what the other party really needs? Is what we are proposing a win-win situation? Is there potential for an even bigger gain for both parties that we haven’t considered?

  4. Brainstorming. The feminine principle will have you listen intently to those who typically stay quieter in team meetings. It will keep the doors open to unexpected ideas and outcomes and to serendipity. It will have you consider unobvious, “right brain” solutions to the problem. Finally, it will help you maintain a playful perspective.

  5. Leadership under pressure. The overly present masculine quality could have you turn into a harsh, potentially judgemental leader when acting in pressure inducing circumstances. If you stay in contact with the feminine quality though, you are more likely to be able to maintain a stance of compassion, gentleness and team wellbeing in stressful situations.

These are just a few examples of the benefits of integrating the feminine principle into your leadership. Overall, the masculine quality alone cannot create a sustainable future unless it’s rooted in, and supported by the feminine quality.
